A Period in Time: Looking Back While Moving Forward, 1977–2022, by American photojournalist and filmmaker Ed Kashi, won 1st Place in the Documentary Book category at the 2026 International Photography Awards, and was a Jury Top 5 Selection.
Kashi has spent 45 years documenting the social and geopolitical issues that define our era. The book is an expansive retrospective of photographs spanning the world and his career, collecting more than 200 images that reflect his commitment to bear witness. Essays and contextual writing accompany the pictures, offering a personal, in-depth look at significant historical events.
A retrospective of this kind does more than collect an archive. Seen together, decades of assignments become a record of how the world has changed and of how one photographer has chosen to look at it — a reminder that documentary work gains meaning over time.
