Convention centers must accommodate enormous shifts in scale—from intimate meetings to performances and gatherings of thousands. At Seattle’s Summit Building, HLB Lighting Design treats illumination as an architectural system capable of responding to those changing needs.
Within the ballroom, integrated fixtures and programmable theatrical controls support a wide range of events. Elsewhere, light helps visitors navigate public areas and experience artworks without overwhelming the surrounding architecture.
The project’s reported energy strategy combines efficient sources with daylight and occupancy controls. Beyond performance metrics, it asks a broader question: how can a large civic building feel generous, legible, and inviting? The answer begins with the careful relationship between light and space.
