Architect Yao Zhiyu and lighting designer Fang Fang worked together on the Shangyu Museum in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, which was named Architectural Design of the Year at the 2022 International Design Awards.
Designed with the Zhejiang Province Institute of Architectural Design and Research, the museum takes the form of two superimposed, distorted squares that interpret history, context and complex functions in a concise architectural vocabulary. Fang Fang’s lighting washes the building’s mass to emphasise its weight, while linear fixtures bring out its finer details.
